We like to call FAIRLING an online dating site for brands: The goal is to get a perfect and long-lasting match between brands and stores. And we can tell you this much: There is already quite an amount of great FAIRLING-Love Stories to tell. One of them is the story of ChillChoc.

ChillChoc – as the name already suggests – is drinking chocolate for relaxation. The special ingredient CBD (Cannabidiol) is extracted from hemp leaves and has a stress-reducing, muscle-relaxing, and cramp-relieving effect. 

The founders Burkhard and Dave had also developed a self-growing soil (Terra Preta) to make infertile soils fertile. Confronted with soil erosion in South America and ChillChoc on their minds, the two combined their heart projects for a good cause.

This sustainable and innovative product brought many requests on FAIRLING after the founders signed up in March 2020. We are very curious to hear about their story:

How did it all start? What’s the idea behind ChillChoc?

The two founders Dave and Burkhard became involved with CBD for personal reasons and their own interest in relieving cramps naturally.

This ingredient of a hemp plant has been proven to relax muscles, relieve cramps and reduce stress, but has no intoxicating effect. The hemp for ChillChoc is grown completely legally in Germany. 

After about one and a half years of research and product development, the first drinking chocolate was launched in 2018. Since then the ChillChoc team has been pursuing the goal of integrating the effect of CBD into everyday life in a tasty and sustainable way. You could almost say they’re making their drinking chocolate a lifestyle product.

What was your favourite highlight or happy moment in the last months?

A highlight was definitely the redesign of our packaging and the relaunch of our online shop. The powder for the drinking chocolate now comes in more sustainable packaging and has more filling.
It was also a great success that our product is now listed in the assortment of one of the biggest distributors in Germany. That is a big step forward!

In marketing and sales, you rely on strong, long-term relationships with your retailers. Why do they choose you? (And why do you choose them?)

We think retailers choose us because we are an innovative product with a great mission behind it. Part of ChillChoc’s revenue goes to open source soil improvement and reforestation projects in cocoa-growing countries. There, ChillChoc supports small and medium-sized farmers by sharing knowledge about soil reforestation. Another bonus might be that our product is very suitable as a gift and our small team is completely behind the idea and vision of ChillChoc. When selecting our resellers, it is important to us that we support individual retailers whose concept we are convinced of.

You have received twelve requests from new traders at FAIRLING so far. Can you give us a little background information on one of these love stories?

We were really happy about the numerous requests! For example, in May we received a whole 7 requests. As a result, Druckwerkstatt based in Hamburg Ottensen and Cob Conceptstore in Essen have been our customers for several months now. It is super convenient because there’s always an exchange every now and then about how things are going. The orders are also very easy. It has always been a pleasant, smooth and uncomplicated process so far.

Where should the journey go? What is the vision of ChillChoc?

Our goal is to change the hemp image through ChillChoc and to anchor it in people’s minds as a superfood. True to the motto: Healthy instead of high!
Our vision is to contribute to a better climate through increased hemp planting and more Terra Preta projects against soil erosion.

Is there anything you would definitely advise other young, emerging brands to do?

Talking to your community is the key. What do they want? Can the product still be improved? We have experienced that it is important not to be too much in love with your product and to develop it quietly. The motto is to go out and test a lot. Of course, it is also important to believe in yourself and your vision, as well as the team spirit in the company.
