We like to call FAIRLING an online dating site for brands: the goal is to get a perfect and long-lasting match between brands and stores. And we can tell you this much: there is already quite an amount of great FAIRLING-Love Stories to tell. One of them is the story of HOPERY.

With HOPERY, you not only notice that there is a lot of heart, passion and experience behind this brand. In addition to sustainable, plastic-free soaps and shampoos, it is also about social commitment and environmental protection to make the world more sustainable holistically and in the long term.

HOPERY joined the FAIRLING community in September 2019. With Benjamin’s passion, experience, and sustainable attitude, he created his own brand HOPERY. To contribute to environmental protection and conscious action, he has decided to produce plastic-free, sustainable shampoo and soap bars and also donates an amount for each product sold. With his appearance on the platform, he was able to convince many great stores that understood his idea and wanted to be part of this project. A true love story began.

How did it all start? What’s the idea behind HOPERY?

After the birth of my daughter Olivia, I deliberately took a 2-year career break. On the one hand, I wanted to consciously enjoy this special time, on the other hand, I wanted to think about my professional future.

Also through Olivia, the desire grew in me to create something sustainable with my work and to help make our planet more livable in the long term.

Every palm oil-free HOPERY product should make our customers happy, while at the same time helping to save endangered orangutans through a direct donation. So everyone who is supporting us, our brand, is supporting our heart project and our social commitment at the same time!

Who are the people behind the brand? Tell us something about yourselves.

I am Benjamin Böhme and I founded HOPERY in 2018. Before that, I worked passionately for 17 years in the natural cosmetics manufacture of my parents. My mother had founded the company in the 80s and made authentic natural cosmetics according to her own recipes. I want to continue our family tradition and my mother’s recipes.
So, even though if the brand is new, the presentation and design very modern, there is a lot of knowledge and many years of experience in our products. The natural recipes come from our family tradition of over 30 years.
In addition to vegan, sustainable products, I also want to do something good for our earth and make it a little bit more livable, that’s why I decided to implement social engagement as well.

What was your favourite highlight or happy moment in the last months?

A particular highlight was the very successful release of our 3in1 soap cans in combination with our new shampoo & shower gel in solid form. The box is made from renewable bamboo and corn.
By completely eliminating plastic packaging, we can additionally achieve a lot here. #wastefreebeauty
Of course, we hope to see a long-term shift towards more environmentally friendly products and packaging. FAIRLING offered us a great opportunity to take this first step to other stores and to expand our idea, our vision, to other cities and even countries.

In marketing and sales, you rely on strong, long-term relationships with your retailers. Why do they choose you? And why do you choose them?

We distribute HOPERY selectively in the owner-operated retail trade. We are very happy about the customer relationships that have developed. Many retail partners have consciously chosen HOPERY. By doing so, they automatically become part of our mission. Every product sold in their retail stores donates 20 cents directly to an orangutan rescue center and at the end of the year, we donate an additional 10% of our profit. Together with our partners, we can achieve so much.

You have received 23 requests from new retailers at FAIRLING so far. Can you give us a little background information on one of these love stories?

I am particularly pleased and proud about the successful cooperation and love story with Kirsten from Herzberg in Hamburg, which came about through FAIRLING. Herzberg is a beautiful small concept store, run by two women Kirsten und Marion, right in the heart of Ottensen, in a very family environment and a lively district in Hamburg.

Also on a personal level, our cooperation works great and HOPERY is presented in a very nice environment.
On FAIRLING you have really great chances to reach exactly these small, individual stores that share and value your vision and passion.

Where should the journey go? What is the vision of HOPERY?

We have a lot planned. Before the end of the year, we will add many new products to our range. The basic idea behind HOPERY will always remain the same: every HOPERY product gives a piece of hope through a direct donation.

Is there anything you would definitely advise other young, emerging brands to do?

Starting a new brand and implementing your own product ideas takes a lot of energy, strength, and passion. Stick with it. If you really want it, you will reach your goals and perseverance is worth it.
The great thing is that you will always find stores and retailers that understand your work and your idea. Everyone can find their own niche and target audience.
